Coach Love

Last week I realized how lucky I am to be a part of the Team in Training family with the opportunity to learn from amazing triathlon coaches.

The above pic is Coach Khem Suthiwan and Pete Alfino // in action // teaching the team about triathlon transitions last week // not pictured is coach Mary Carey //. This is not just a volunteer venue for them.

It’s a passion.

Coach Mary has completed four Ironmans, 12 Half-Ironmans and too many Sprint and Olympic distance triathlons to count. Coach Khem is a rockstar athlete who has completed multiple Ironmans, six Half-Ironmans, and a handful of Sprint and Olympic Triathlons. Coach Pete is a USAT certified triathlon coach, having coached athletes who have qualified for world championships in each distance. He has podium placements at multiple Ironman races. TNT is close to his heart because his daughter, Lauren, is fighting Leukemia.

I digress. My point here is two fold:

  1. Thank you to each coach for your time and effort. You’re at practice before each of us and you stay later than anyone. You always have a great attitude and you’re super encouraging. THANK YOU!
  2. With such amazing coaching, I should be a rockstar athlete by now, right?! Hahaha. I’m getting there. I feel so far behind, me competing in my first race at 32. I have some ground to make up–but hey, I’m all in.

Cheers to one crazy month of training before the big day…
